Discussion ( Group Z )

1. Illustrate with examples what would you see in the design of a building that you would consider it to be unique.

It is unique as from far it looks like the real Egyptian pyramids and sphinx but it is actually
a hotel and furthermore the place is located in Las Vegas instead of egypt

This building from top down view looks like a toilet bowl and this is unique as you do not normally see this kind of buildings around the world.

This building is like the sunflower which will follow the sun The balcony rail is a solar vacuum tube to heat water. Photovoltaics on the roof rotate independently to track the sun, generating four to six times the energy needed for the house, making it beyond zero energy and into "das Plusenergiehaus" or a "Plus-energy House."

It not only rotates and is solar powered, generating 5 to six times what it needs to run the house, it is prefab, using pre-manufactured parts and pieces. The primary structural material is glue-laminated wood beams. Spruce was chosen because it is grown regionally and is a rapidly renewable material. If that is not enough, there is on-site composting, chemical free sewage treatment and rain water catchment.

2. Illustrate with examples how does colors affect the look and feel of a building (exterior/interior)?

The combination of the colors brings a very outstanding contrast which also manage to provide the consumers with comfortability when he/she looks at it .

3. Illustrate with examples how does lights affect the look and feel of a building (exterior/interior)?

To internally illuminate the building by indirectly highlighting the ceiling surfaces. Specially designed luminaries for the open office areas provide a softly uplit space.

A custom workstation luminaire combines an individually controlled LED task light with a GE 54-watt T5 3500 K indirect lighting component for the ambient illumination. The prismatic top cover provides a glare-free, comfortable environment.

4. Illustrate with examples how does texture affect the look and feel of a building (exterior/interior)?

What makes a GOOD architectural design ?

1. A good architectural design must be able to stand out from others ordinary design while serving its original or basic purpose.
2. It must meet the users need and fulfill his wishes.
3. Aesthetically, it must have a certain link with the environment .
4. A good architectural design should have a strong background, history or culture behind the design.

Reference :

I think a good architectural design we can find in Singapore is Cineleisure . It is located very near the SCAPE youth park. One can find anything for teenagers at Cineleisure as the shops there are meant for teenagers. This meets the needs of the users.

History of Cineleisure :

The first entertainment centre accorded the “Cineleisure” branding was Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, which is located in the heart of Orchard Road in Singapore.

Developed around a movie-set theme, the carefully chosen tenant-mix gives visitors a choice of entertainment activities including lifestyle retail shopping, fine dining at restaurants, casual dining in a themed foodcourt, as well as a myriad of leisure activities found in the health spa, health centre, beauty centre, social club, games arcade, cyber-cafe and a choice of six movie halls.

This building has won accolades such as the “SIA-ICI (Singapore Institute of Architects – ICI Paints) Colour Award” for its creative use of colours in its building design. Consumers have given it the thumbs-up when two of its cinemas (Halls 3 and 6) were voted Singapore’s best screens in a survey conducted by The Straits Times in April 1998. In another survey by Ad Post, a publication which reaches out to Singapore residents across the island, readers voted Cathay Cineplex, Orchard their “Favourite Cinema in Singapore”.

What is Architectural Design ?

Architectural Design is a combination of both the ideas from an architect and a designer. It is the crucial part that will affect the designs of a structure .

Architecture design refers to the actual design and layout of spaces. Architecture encompasses many different elements including construction, design, and the manipulation of light as it relates to shadow. Throughout history, architects have found ways to create functional and practical spaces using any materials that were available.
